Vocal cord nodules are most common in singers, teachers , sales person or instructors. They can however affect anyone who use their voice a lot especially without no experience with speech therapy. Even children can have vocal cord nodules. Little kids shouting on the football pitch or grown ups shouting at football match. The symptoms are usually gradual on set of hoarse voice. Often with no pain. However your throat might hurt after prolong talking or forced talk. Treatment is usually by speech therapist after the diagnosis is made. Occasionally surgery might be require to remove them. This is done under a general anaesthesia. It is basically a 20-30 minutes surgery and you go home the same day. You will need to rest your for 3 days to a week only. Complications from this surgery are rare in experts hands.
Patients with vocal cord paralysis no longer need to wait for months before they can be offered treatment to improve their voice. There are several injection materials that can be used to augment the vocal cords in other to improve the voice. Examples are Radiesse voice which simply is a bulking agent similar to the type use in skin wrinkles. Other injection materials are hyaluronic acid or your body fat can be use too.
